EDITOR - What a timely letter from Dennis Hall regarding the Remembrance Parade and the important concert held on the Saturday night prior.
I too was at the concert and was equally disappointed at the low turnout, at what was a really nice event and it was nice to see the British Legion Standard bearers at least present to add solemnity to the music played, relevant to the occasion.
However, even the Mail with a full page on the event at no time displayed a photograph of the Band, who led the parade to the Cenotaph, where they played a lovely hymn whilst wreaths were laid. In addition, no mention was made of the playing of the last post and reveille by the cornet player from the band. What would this occasion be without these being played?
And what sort of a parade would it be without the stirring martial music as the parade marches on? The article on the previous page did however show how much the Band had played at the 1918 Armistice celebrations, thus confirming how important it is that we keep this Band of ours going strong
