Sun, showers and PLENTY of fun! - SUNSHINE and showers were the perfect mix to encourage the germination and growth of Market Rasen's seventh Gardeners' Fair.
The rain couldn't dampen the spirits as Market Rasen went green for this year's Gardeners' Fair and the sunshine merely served to bring out the crowds on the second day
Home-grown celebrity Midge Thomas officially opened the event, with welcoming speeches also from Town Mayor Burt Keimach and the Chairman of West Lindsey District Council Peter Heath.

She said that as she looked at the stalls and displays, she appreciated the huge amount of work that had gone into the organisation nad hoped that visitors would pick up some plants or inspiration to take hoome and grow on into their own produce.

Coun Keimach billed it as 'one of the major events in the town' and visitors commented on the friendly, relaxed atmosphere of the fair and enjoyed the selection of live music.

Carol Visser came from Sudbrooke, as she does every year, and reckoned that it continued with its successful format of specialist local nurseries, knowledgeable plantspeople and interesting craftsmen.
"I think it's a wonderful event and it's really good for Market Rasen," she said.

Saturday's rain didn't deter the serious gardeners who went along to get their pick of the plentiful plants from a wide range of suppliers, while Sunday's sun brtought out many families to see what was on offer.
This year's event attracted about 4000 visitors and was organised by a committee of volunteers, who have had a lot of positive feedback.
"We have had lots of good comments about this years Gardeners' Fair and this will hopefully generate lots of return visits to the town" said volunteer Carol Skye.

Plans for next year's event will be underway soon and more volunteers are needed. If you want to be involved ring The Rasen Hub on 01673 844556.

* There will no longer be open gardens in Market Rasen on July 5 and 6 as previously advertised.
