POWERFUL telescopes will be slewed skywards in Chambers Farm Wood as rangers get ready to bring the Universe just a little bit closer!
The Forestry Commission is staging its hugely popular Autumn Star Party in the 360-hectare (900-acre) beauty-spot, near Wragby, Lincs, on Saturday October 4, offering people a rare chance to spy celestial wonders guided by experts.

Last year’s pristine skies lured nearly 100 people into the wood, who marvelled at a feast of heavenly delights, from distant galaxies to sparkling star clusters. This time eyes will also be peeled for man-made satellites, which orbit the earth in their thousands, looking like stars in a hurry as they cross the Lincolnshire sky!

The event starts at 8pm, meeting at the Chambers Farm Wood Centre, off the B1202 Bardney to Wragby road. The cost is £2, which includes hot drinks. Dress in warm clothes and bring binoculars. For more information call 01526 399943, or log-on to www.forestry.gov.uk/EastMidlands
