MARKET Rasen and District Choral Society has appointed a new music director to take over from Thea Hogg, who retires after 20 years following the performance of the Mozart and Faure Requiems at De Aston Sports Hall on Saturday.
He is former music teacher Colin Lesser of Walesby, who is already a member of the choir.

Colin graduated from the Royal College of Music and was first involved with choral singing with the Huddersfield Youth Choir. He was then assistant conductor and accompanist with the Buckingham Choral Society and directed many choral works during his time as musical director with the Royal Latin School in Buckingham.

He was a teacher at Caistor Grammar School, where he first met Thea Hogg with whom he shared sixth form teaching, and she encouraged him to sing in her choir when other commitments allowed.

“It’s a real privilage to be taking over from Thea,” he said. “She has had the drive to realise her dream and, over a period of 20 years, has brought classical music to life in Market Rasen.”

Colin’s first performance as director will be on Saturday November 29 at the Methodist Church with ‘A Night at the Opera’ - a collection of choruses and arias.
