A VISIT to Chambers Farm Wood, near Wragby, promises to be a real tonic for nature lovers on Sunday next week (12)!

The Forestry Commission is staging a unique event to revive ancient lore on herbal medicines, teas and syrups.

Once upon a time woods like Chambers – part of the Bardney Limewoods National Nature Reserve - supplied many of life's necessities, from food to building materials. But they were also a key source of medicinal ingredients. In fact herbs and plants remain the basis of many modern medicines.

Putting people in touch with nature will be medical herbalist Debbie Lincoln, 47, from Metheringham. She took a degree in the subject at Lincoln University and will be showing how to make simple teas and how to nurture a medicine garden at home using indigenous species and "weeds". Practical sessions will include making your own syrup or medicinal liquor. Debbie explained:

The event is being staged as part of the Forestry Commission's Active Woods health push. Chambers Farm Wood is signed off the B1202 Wragby to Bardney road.

The cost is £5 per person and booking is essential. For more information call 01526 399943.
