Tuesday, 2pm: GAINSBOROUGH Old Hall is to be featured in a one-off programme staring celebrity chef Clarissa Dickson-Wright.
The Old Hall hosted the star as she filmed a new programme to be shown on BBC Four tomorrow, Wednesday, as part of the Medieval season.

‘The King’s Cookbook’ features Clarissa, best known as one half of the ‘Two Fat Ladies’, cooking in the kitchen at the Old Hall.

During the programme she tracks down Britain's oldest known cookbook - The Forme of Cury - a 700-year-old scroll.

Clarissa unravels recipes, sources authentic ingredients, discovers medieval gastronomic techniques and cooks in the period kitchen at the Old Hall to recreate this regal fare. In doing so, she creates a historical portrait of the lush extravagance that surrounded King Richard II.

Victoria Mason, Site co-ordinator at the Old Hall said: “It is always wonderful to see the kitchens being used for the purpose they were built.

Visitors will also be able to see this fine example of a medieval kitchen working on the 26th of May as part of the Battling Through Time living history event.”

* The programme is due to be aired on Wednesday 7 May 2008 on BBC Four in the evening..
