WI dabbles in new delights

CAISTOR Women's Institute put their weight behind the WI's national move to get the government to increase research into the decline of the honeybees.

Anne Timson and Jenny Foster brought information back from a federation meeting in Wragby - a hive of beekeeping activity around Thorne’s bee business - about members being urged countrywide to plant wild flowers to attract bees.

A quiz using photographs of members as young children was organised by Noreen Newton. A members’ cake stall at the Mayor’s Fair raised 73, which they donated to a women’s refuge in Lincoln.

The competition was an arrangement in an egg cup which made a splendid display with the winner Joan Wright. The Flower of the Month was won by Catherine Shacklock.

* Charlotte Linsell’s ‘Dabble Evening’ provoked a good attendance at the WI, with members trying their hands at various crafts such as making greeting cards, embroidery and making little boxes.

The best item made was by Lynda Jackson, Joan Wright and Jan Sanderson. Flower of the Month was won by Wendy Handford, Catherine Shacklock and Joan Wright. Raffle winner was Florrie Garfoot.

Arrangements were made for Promotion Day on July 4 at the Town Hall and a visit to Cote Hill Farm at Osgodby.
