Vandals won't win in war on the riverside

THE Town Council is to press ahead with the installation of purpose built heavy Humber bench seats on the riverside.

Members decided that the vandals who had destroyed the previous less substantial seats installed only 12 months ago should not be allowed to win!

Town Mayor James Truepenny said: “If we want to raise the profile of the town and attract visitors, issues such as this have to be addressed. The alternative is to allow the town to fall into a complete state of disrepair.”

Coun Nobbs reported on a visit to Pocklington to view the success of the ‘robust’ benches put in place there after similar problems.

The six new benches will cost in the region of 1,500 but what remains of the previous seats can be used to repair benches in other parts of town.
