Traffic calming removal delight
GLEBE Road residents are delighted that traffic calming measures in their street are on the move - after three years of complaining since their installation.
Karen Deeley, a resident of Glebe Road, raised the question of the unpopular traffic calming measures at a Brigg Town Council Environment Committee meeting attended by Peter Scott, North Lincs Council’s head of safer roads.
Residents claim that the bollards had created a single lane for traffic as well as reducing on-street car parking availability for them.
Mr Scott said one reason for the introduction of the chicane under the Safe Routes to Schools initiative had been to deter the use of the street as a rat run at a time when the primary school was located there.
Hope came for the neighbourhood however when Mr Scott agreed that some modification of the scheme could be looked at and that residents would be consulted.
The meeting was also told that North Lincolnshire Council will in future be more willing to consider resident parking schemes in Brigg, now that enforcement will fall under its control.
Mr Scott said that a trial scheme could be introduced locally as discussions on the trial scheme and the location of it are now taking place.
Deputy Town Mayor Ben Nobbs told him that the problem of on-street parking in the town generally had been exacerbated by the loss of the initial period of free parking on the town’s car parks.
