Save the skateboad park!
VOLUNTEERS are still needed to stop the Brigg Skate Park from closing and local people are being urged to show their support for the town's young people by attending a public meeting in the town next Monday(8) in the Angel Suite at 6.30pm.
The present crisis is over the need to raise 1,800 annually to pay for the insurance and the need to organise events to keep the park open, and a meeting last month to discuss the threat of closure hanging over the park at the Ancholme Leisure Centre was very well attended with many ideas for raising funds.
A need was identified for events that could be held that would, at the same time, publicise the existence of the skate park and help to raise funds.
The possibilities of obtaining grants and donations was discussed as was who the group could call on for more support for any events organised.
There was a great deal of enthusiasm for these ideas and it was decided to call the March meeting to which it is hoped all those present in February would attend and they would also bring along a number of friends to swell the numbers of people who could help.
"The committee needs to be formed fast as the insurance is due soon," said deputy mayor Ben Nobbs.
"To keep the park open, North Lincolnshire Council paid for it up to the end of this financial year on March 31, but then the committee has to find the money or the park will close."
The town council discussed one way forward in which they can help, which would be to give 500 to the cost, spread over two financial years and this will be discussed at tonight's Policy Committee meeting.
The council is restricted to 250 per year because the skate park is in Scawby parish and not Brigg.
