Rotary service award for Marion

A LIFETIME of selfless giving by a Market Rasen woman has been recognised by the town’s Rotary Club.
Marion Cooper, of Walesby Road, is this year’s recipient of the group’s Community Service Award.
As well as being a member of the successful, charity supporting, Rotary Ladies group, for as long as husband Geoff has been in Rotary – some 35 years – Marion has been involved with town life for much longer.
She has, for instance, been donating blood for 50 years and throughout that time, Marion has also been a fundraiser for the Red Cross, organising collections and helping with the open garden teas for the charity.
The gardeners of Market Rasen know her well too, having been the town’s garden club secretary for 25 years.
She successfully showed her skills and ability with the wonderful gardens on display to all, when she and Geoff lived at Clare Lodge, on the corner of Gallamore Lane.
She used that floristry, growing and display talent well, being on the flower rota at St Thomas’ Church, holding plant stalls and coffee mornings at her home.
Loving nature, and things natural, Marion was the sales officer for the Lincolnshire Trust for Nature Conservation, and ran the Christmas shop for that charity for some 25 years.
Over the years she has also been involved with The Arthritis Research Council Committee, and also Christian Aid fundraising ventures.
The saying goes, that if you want something done, ask a busy person to do it, and this is, and has been the case, with Marion all her adult life.
A spokesman for the Rotary Club said: “Quiet and unassuming, Marion Cooper has without doubt affected the Community of Market Rasen, in a most positive and effective way for so many years. The Rotary Club was proud to recognize Marion’s life, of selfless giving, with this Community Service award.”
