rasen needs you

YOUR town needs you!

That’s the message from a newly-formed steering group of volunteers from all walks of life brought together by their ambition to push Market Rasen forward and to make it a better place to live, work, shop and visit.

Following three public meetings, held over the last three months, a neighbourhood planning steering group has formed and is now looking for the public to come forward and tell them what they would like to see happen in Market Rasen.

This will form the basis of a legally binding Neighbourhood Plan, which the town council will then be able to use in order to apply for funding from West Lindsey District Council.

But steering group volunteer Carol Skye said: “I must stress this has got to be community-led.

“We have already had more than 200 suggestions and engaged 154 people, but we need more.”

The group is looking for your view on: community safety, clubs, sports and organisations, communications, business growth, business support, enterprise and education, green spaces, events, facilities, retail, services, health and social care, relief of poverty, social housing, infrastructure, facilities, travel, mobile phone reception, broadband, roads and flood prevention/sewage control.

Some of the suggestions already received by the group, and due to be discussed at the next meeting on Thursday, January 26, include: signs to highlight the town’s free parking, clean-up of shop and building frontages in the town, working CCTV, a flood plan, an active business network, a performance, drama or art space, a town centre manager to co-ordinate events, a music festival, more wi–fi spots, a one way system in George Street, better public transport, longer opening times at The Rasens Household Recycling Centre, flood and sewage relief for West Rasen and of course there have been a number of calls for a swimming pool to be built in the town.

There are a number of ways you can have your say. You can pop into Rasen Hub and fill in a feedback form, keep up-to-date and leave a comment on the Neighbourhood Plan blog http://rasen-neighbourhood-plan.blogspot.com or have your say by contacting the Rasen Mail.
