There was a double delight for Caistor in Bloom on Saturday - a successful tidy up event and the results of their inaugural Valentines prize draw.

To get the raffle off to a fantastic start, Cherry Valley had donated the first prize of £100.

And the lucky winner was Mandy Logan, who was delighted with the win and resolves to plant roses along a fence by her greenhouse and raised vegetable bed, helped by her Edible Garden prizewinning grandchildren.

Mandy also won the second prize of a steak meal for two with wine at The Farmers.

There were many other prizewinners too and a full list is available at the town’s post office, paper shop and on the CIB website.

The money raised will go to help the town council replace the hanging baskets that adorn the Market Place, which have become old and cracked.

Other raffle sponsors included Hope House Gardens, RNLI , RAOB, Lord and Lady Yarborough, Colin McKay and CiB Committee members.

“This was as much a profile raising exercise as well as funding the new baskets,” said Caistor in Bloom committee member Rick Merrall.

“Many people were totally unaware that we have progressed to the Britain in Bloom national finals for 2013.

“This event and the radio interview playing in the Post Office was testament there is a huge swathe of support to help Caistor gain the national recognition it so richly deserves.”

Meanwhile 25 stalwart volunteers took part in the BigTidyup event collecting 27 bags of rubbish.

A new Easter raffle will now be started, which will be drawn at the Mayor’s Fair on Saturday March 30.

Tickets will be go on sale shortly.
