A NETTLETON teenager has let her voice be heard to take her through to the regional final of a national competition.

Singer Alexandra Fairfield was one of 300 people at the Leeds audition for Open Mic UK and was delighted when
she got through to the next
stage.

For her audition piece, she sang the Kellie Coffey version of Dance with My Father and for her call back she chose Mumford & Sons’ White Blank Page.

“I felt more relaxed at the call back, so found that a lot easier as I knew what to expect, having faced the judges once already,” said Alexandra.

Now the 15-year-old is gearing up for the live regional event at Dewsbury Town Hall on October 13.

And if she manages to wow the judges there, she could be heading for London and the national final being held at The O2 Arena.

Although Alexandra has liked performing arts since she was very young, it is only when she started at Caistor Yarborough School aged she took up singing.

“I never really thought of myself as a singer, but when I was asked if I would like to take lessons I decided to give it a go,” added Alexandra.

Now there is no stopping her.

Last year, she reached the final of the GX-Factor in Grimsby and who better than to guide her through these sorts of competition than her singing teacher Verity Keays, who was a finalist in the first X-Factor competition.

Alexandra, who is always in demand at local music events, isn’t always a solo artist however, as she often teams up with older sister Amelia for singing events and the pair have even cut their own three-track CD.

And at the regional final, she will be competing against her friend and fellow Caistor Yarborough Academy student Chloe Spence, who also made it through at the Leeds audition.

“I am really looking forward to the Dewsbury final,” added Alexandra.

“Chloe and I have lots of supporters going with us, so it will be really good.”
