More councillors go at Caistor Town council

Tuesday, 1pm: CAISTOR Town Council is on the brink of collapse after a fifth resignation in as many days.

Just four days after the dramatic resignations of the Town Mayor, Coun Steve Webster and the Town Clerk, Ruth Dawson, - detailed on the Caistor pages on this site - another councillor resigned from Caistor Town Council yesterday.

Coun the Rev Ian Robinson, who was last year's vice chairman and chairman of the Planning Committee, has resigned from the council with immediate effect, after eight years.

Two more councillors stepped down later on Monday - former mayor Angela Lawrence and Coun Marcus Plume.

More resignations are expected and an emergency meeting of the council is called for Friday, June 19, to elect a new chairman.

Coun Robinson said he was sad to go but had found the past 12 months particularly frustrating.

"It's mainly pressure of work as I have to take on responsibilities at the Kelsey group, but it's been particularly frustrating over the past year with a number of difficulties at the council," he said.

"It's been an enjoyable eight years but the last year has not been enjoyable.

"Had I not had the extra work I might have stayed, but the resignation of Coun Webster means there has to be an election anyway, so it seemed the right time for me to go," he said.
