International day at Caistor Yarborough School
CAISTOR Yarborough School, which is a specialist Arts College, held an International Thematic Day when staff and students were involved in a number of curricular experiences with an international dimension.
The school is working towards the International School's Award and through this it has forged a partnership with two schools in Finland and France.
During the thematic day students had the opportunity to experience a range of activities from the ancient Indian art of Rangoli to the development of a trade game where students learnt about the problems involved in global trading.
The science department compared climate data from Caistor and the partner schools in Podoski and Carcassone whilst learning about the GPS systems, and the GCSE students prepared a Chinese banquet to celebrate the Chinese New Year and created a range of international chocolates, packaging for which was designed by students in the Design and Technology department using a vacuum former.
Elsewhere students took part in a 'Bollywood' dance workshop and had the opportunity to make African pots and learn about African culture through traditional stories presented by Andre Houmkpotin of the Republic of Benin in West Africa.
