Ernie standing for Parliament
A CAISTOR man is standing as an independent parliamentary candidate at the coming general election.
Ernie Brown (47), former columnist of the 'Digging Deep' series in the Market Rasen Mail, said: "I have been thinking about standing for quite a while, having been approached by members of the public, and am delighted to have been asked to stand as the Independent candidate for Grimsby.
"I can assure the people of the town I will fulfil the task with passion, energy and drive."
Ernie and his wife Jacquie run a maintenance gardening business and Ernie is the chairman of the Heritage Committee with Grimsby and Cleethorpes District Civic Society and has researched and written trails for guided tours around both towns and Healing.
He and Jacquie set up a Civic Award Scheme to reward good work in the natural and built environment of the area.
In 2007 Ernie joined Cleethorpes in Bloom, creating unusual gardens such as the Incredible Edible Roundabout, which was voted the best in 2005, and he appeared on television's 'Alan Titchmarsh Show' in 2007.
Grimsby in Bloom saw Ernie as its chairman and in 2009 the town won gold as the Best Small City in East Midlands.
Ernie also writes a weekly column in the Life paper and is a member of Greater Grimsby Renaissance Partnership and Growing Clubs Network, as well as being a member of the Caistor in Bloom committee.
