Councillors express concerns North Street will become rat run
CAISTOR councillors have asked that the one way system on South Street be extended for its entire length and they reiterated concerns North Street might become a rat run for vehicles avoiding the High Street, once a traffic light system is installed.
Work on the installation of single-lane traffic control signals, designed to relieve traffic congestion up and down High Street, which can only worsen once the new Co-op store is open in the autumn, is expected to get underway this July.
Steve Wiles, Area Highways Manager, said the work was necessary because of the narrow bend on the A1084 'which is a safety hazard due to the fact that two large vehicles cannot pass by without potentially dangerous manoeuvres'.
It is expected the project will take around four weeks to complete, and we are working with our contractor to consider how we can best minimise any disruption to motorists and residents whilst the work is taking place," he said.
"The residents along this section of the road have expressed their very real concerns about this situation, and I am pleased this improvement can be introduced.
"I am hopeful that, when in place, it will largely address the safety and environmental impact problems we are current experiencing."
