Caistor misses out on Village of the Year
Tuesday 11am CAISTOR has missed out on reaching the national rounds of the Calor Lincolnshire Village of the Year competition.
Belchford is the overall winner in the competition gaining the prestigious title of Calor Lincolnshire Village of the Year for 2009, with the category awards going to Belchford (Community and Communication), Donington (Business) and Silk Willoughby (Sustainability).
Caistor was one of the four Lincolnshire finalists but failed to win any of the category prizes, although local organiser Deborah Barker said that it was the first time Caistor had been in anything like this competition and viewed it as a 'stepping stone' for next year.
"I am surprised we didn't win any of the categories, particularly the community one as we have a very strong community," she said.
"We ticked all the boxes but I don't think we presented as well as we could have done, but we can learn from that and go forward for next year."
The competition is run by Community Lincolnshire with sponsorship provided by Calor.
Organiser Teresa Palmer commented: "Our congratulations go to all the villages in this year's competition. We were very impressed by the standard of the villages and the judges had a very tough job selecting the winners.
"We hope that even more villages will be encouraged to participate again in 2010."
There will be a presentation to the winning villages later in the year.
