Brigg Briefs
Brigg News in Brief
* Brigg's historic pub The Dying Gladiator is set to reopen after 18 months with its doors closed and windows boarded. Official opening day is this Friday March 5.
* Chrysanthemums is the subject of the March talk at Brigg Horticultural Society at 7.30pm in the Methodist Hall, Barnard Avenue. The illustrated talk will be given by Mick Graves of Broughton. Members go free, non-members 2.
* A meeting between Brigg MP Ian Cawsey and North Lincolnshire Councillor Bernard Regan looked at better footpath provision at two town blackspots - the Station Approach and Springs Way. Town councillors heard North Lincolnshire was now looking to repair the Springs Way path if finances are available. Progress at the Station Approach however was not so far being made.
* Brigg councillors have backed a proposal to write formally to the Mayor and people of the Wiltshire town of Wootton Bassett 'for the sensitive, respectful and dignified support they are providing to the families and loved ones of those members of the armed forces who sadly are repatriated through the town having paid the ultimate sacrifice'.
* The planned March cut of spring weed growth in the Ancholme may or may not go ahead in the light of the exceptional winter cold and late start to the growing season this winter. Town Clerk Jeanette Woollard said the council would continue to have dialogue with the Environment Agency as to whether an early cut was necessary but in principle wanted the four cuts per year agreed to remain in place.
