Brigg pumped up for festivities
A CEREMONY of colour celebrated the history of the town before a large and enthusiastioc crowd as Brigg Amateur Social Historians organised the dressing and blessing of the Brigg Water Pumps.
First the Grimsby Morris Men danced at the pump on Grammar School Road outside The White Horse and the curate of St John's, the Rev David Eames, blessed the pump.
Everyone then made their way to the pump at the County Bridge on the Nelthorpe Arms side. The pump had been cleaned and painted by pub landlord Paul Butler and more dancing ensued by the Morris Men and again a blessing by Mr Eames completed the ceremony.
The pumps had been beautifully dressed by the ladies of Brigg Flower Club using flowers were supplied by Brigg Fruit Veg and Flowers.
A supper was provided for the Morris Men at the Brigg and District Servicemen's Club where they played and sang folk songs.
BASH’s next event is an illustrated talk by Marilyn Roberts on The History of Anastasia, on Tuesday, September 1.
