Bridge building and team tactics at the Vale
Students at the Vale of Ancholme Technology and Music College spent an entire week in curriculum enhancement activities ranging from team tactics and bridge building to African drumming.
Years 8 and 9 focused on the college’s two specialisms - technology and music. Year 8 formed a junk band in one project. Other students took part in team building exercises helped by the Royal Marines, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force.
Other contributions came from African drumming teacher Lisa Oliver, the Territorial Army and the Humber Bridgemaster examining sustainable energy and bridge construction with advice from the Institute of Chartered Engineers.
Vale head Gail Young said: “As a technology college it is important that we offer students opportunities to develop their understanding of science, maths, engineering and technology. Curriculum enhancement week provides valuable curriculum time to enable students to work on projects which included solar cars and bridges. Media, drama and dance were also involved with Year 8.”
Year 7 had a different focus experiencing a week’s camping at Bradley Woods, West Yorkshire while Year 10 were out and about in the local community on work experience placements.
