Ancholme swimmers make a splash for charities

NORTH Lincolnshire Council and local swimmers at the Ancholme Leisure Centre have raised funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Swimathon Foundation.

Ancholme Leisure Centre was one of over 500 pools nationwide greatly contributing to Swimathon's 2009 fundraising total of almost 1.5million. Swimmers at the centre raised 2,666.80.

In April the council introduced free public swimming sessions for people aged 60 and over and 16 or under at all of its pools up to March 31, 201.

This helped boost the number of bathers to record levels. From April to June the council’s pools welcomed 56,000 swimmers, up12,300 on the same time last year.

Of these figures, a staggering 36,287 visits were made by people taking advantage of the council’s free swimming scheme.
