WORK to make-over Caistor Market Place with new paving and road surfaces should start later in the year after no objections were raised by the community.
Lincolnshire County Council and its partners are looking at a £500,000 enhancement with funding from its own coffers, West Lindsey, the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Townscape Heritage Initiative, European economic regeneration cash and Lincolnshire Enterp
rise.

A community survey showed awidely held view that the area functioned well but needed an improved look.

There was continued need for parking, but short term; need for the Saturday Market in its current location and mixed views about use of the Market Place by school buses. So in addition to better surfaces, extended street lighting, a bus shelter, traffic management on High Street and Grimsby Road and parking facilities and restriction are also being looked at.

Project manager Les Outram said funding would now allow an enlarged and enhanced scheme, ‘principally to renew road and footway surfaces using high quality materials such as Yorkstone where possible’.

With no objections made to the surfacing plans at a public meeting, the process was now moving through the detailed design process and tenders for the work would be requested to start work later in the year.
