TOWN councillors are to hold an extra meeting to talk about the town's CCTV system, which has been installed, but not operating, for several months.

The council has also refused to pay a bill of almost £1,000 sent in by the company which installed it, for turning the system off, after councillors said they had never asked for the system to be turned on, just tested to ensure the bill for insta
lling it could be paid.

Deputy Mayor Ian Robinson said he had made enquiries of other companies and understood it required little more than pulling out a plug.

"It does seem an extraordinary amount of money to switch off the system," he said.

The council tax payers of Caistor paid £7,741 for the two cameras which have been installed on the post office and the Town Hall, and there are other cameras installed on the Multi-Use Centre, and there have been grants given by the county and district councils and by Lincolnshire Broadband and the Multi-Use Centre.

However, no Code of Practice has yet been set up to control the way it can be used and, although all parties concerned with it now want to hand the whole system over to West Lindsey to run and monitor from Gainsborough, officers there will not accept it as it is not up to their specifications.

There has not as yet been any decision made as to how much this will cost and who will pay for it.
