FRIDAY, 10.30am: CAISTOR cop Stuart Roach has won a national policing award for his devotion and dedication to duty.
PC Roach was last night, Thursday, announced as the winner of the Jane's Police Review Lifetime Achievement Award, a commendation for an officer in the last year of his service.
He has notched up more than 36 years' service and is currently the force's longest serving officer, due to retire next May.
He has remained at the Caistor police station throughout this time, and his force says everyone in the area, which covers 25 villages and towns, knows of 'Roachie'.
Far from winding down towards the end of his career, PC Roach is currently working as a 24/7 response and patrol driver. He has not had a day off sick in the past five years and has never been late to work throughout his service.
The police station's lawn is still maintained by him and he decorates the station out of his own pocket at Christmas.
Sgt Lew Bailey said PC Roach was 'the encyclopedia of Caistor' and had never lost his enthusiasm for the job.'
Chief Constable Richard Crompton said: "Last night I had the pleasure and the privilege to attend Jane's Police review Gala Awards Dinner at the Horticultural Halls in London with our nominee for Community Support Officer of the Year, PCSO Marie Williams and our nominee for Lifetime Achievement Award, Police Constable Stuart Roach.
"The highlight of the evening was around 11pm when Hugh Edwards, the news broadcaster, announced the winner of the Lifetime Achiever Award. The room erupted when he announced our very own Stuart Roach as this year's winner.
"He is in my opinion the epitome of what makes a great police officer and once again I extend to him and his wife, my heartfelt congratulations."
