CAISTOR motorbike enthusiast Charlie Balmforth and friend Gordon Pocklington will next month take two old Matchless Motorcycles from Lands End to John O'Groats - for 'a bit of fun'.

Both are members of the Vintage Motorcycle Club, based in Burton-on-Trent, and the journey is something they have both wanted to do for 50 years.

Charlie (71) lost the lower part of his right arm from the elbow in a machine accident when he was 15 years old in 1953 and Gordon (72) from Saxilby has a few ailments including deafness so it will not be an easy feat but both are determined to complete the ride in a week from September 5 to 12.

Geoff Eyres, another old bike fanatic, will provide a motor home and trailer back-up along the way.

Charlie, riding a 1953 G9 Matchless 500cc, is raising money for Caistor 1st Responders and Gordon, riding a1955 G80s 500 Single Cylinder, is raising money for the British Legion Welfare Section at Saxilby.

* To sponsor Charlie call him on 01472 851708.
