A RIVERSIDE Theatre project sits at the heart of a development plan for the Ancholme as part of an initiative to revamp leisure facilities in Brigg.
Regeneration of the Recreation Ground also features in the long-standing wish list of the Beacon Town Forum that evolved from the Brigg Market Town Initiative Plan.

But wil no clear progress made to move either forward in the last five yera, tow
n councillors are getting impatient for positive indications from bureaucrats that their dreams could still become reality.

Brigg Town Council’s policy committee was briefed by Richard Mason, chairman of the Beacon Town Forum - only to hear from Coun Jenny Bell that regrettably there was a lack of confidence among local sports clubs that their hopes for better facilities in the town would ever be realised.

Coun Penny Smith felt the emphasis should be on sports facilities as far too many of the town’s young people were presently having to travel out of town because of lack of facilities locally.

Town Clerk Jeanette Woollard asked North Lincolnshire Councillor John Berry whether he had any evidence that local groups would use a theatre complex and that it would not become a burden on the council tax payer.

Mr Mason and Coun Berry said that a first priority for the new officer appointed to Beacon Town would be to research whether funding for the proposed schemes was obtainable.

They acknowledged that frustration at the lack of progress was a key factor in dampening the enthusiasm of volunteers.
