Mound formed at burial site

AN UNUSUAL mound has been created adjacent to the cemetery in Brigg.
Far from being an ancient burial mound it has a practical purpose in helping that part of town withstand flooding.
Created on the north east side of the cemetery its function is to hold back any ponding surface water to give time to mobilise pumping when necessary.
A new manhole has been constructed to facilitate outfall of a drainage scheme from the cemetery to the surface water drain on Wrawby Road.
North Lincolnshire Council, residents and Anglian Water have had discussions about the drainage and the operation of the foul water system. The pumping system station in East Parade has reportedly been operating satisfactorily but concerns remain about flooding despite the extensive works carried out to improve drainage at the locality in very heavy rain.
Coun Ben Nobbs, the town councillor with oversight for flooding praised the work of the unitary authority.
“North Lincolnshire have been making every effort to solve the local problems in this area. The mound looks impressive but the work has been extensive,” he said.
