BRIGG Cub Scouts have enjoyed a midsummer weekend camping in Goxhill.
They took time out of camp to make a visit to nearby Thornton Abbey, making their way partly across fields on a public right of way.

The Cubs looked for answers in a quiz about the Abbey and its history, explored the ruins, laid in the graves, and saw newts in the well. They then explored the inside of the gatehouse, enjoying the various passages, dressing up as monks and played some interactive games to help them with their Local History Badge.

After leaving the abbey, they did some pond dipping in the pond at the picnic area, finding some very tiny newts to help with their Naturalist Badge.

After time spent enjoyably at the Abbey, the group walked to Thornton Abbey Station and took the train back to Goxhill.
Sunday was rest day on site with games and a demonstration of a minature hot air balloon.

The camp ended with a barbeque lunch which the cubs helped to prepare.

Cub evening starts up again on September 4.
