THE VALE of Ancholme Technology and Music College will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its foundation in this coming academic year.
To mark the 50th anniversary of Westmoor School, one of the founding elements of what became the Vale of Ancholme in the 70s, it is hoped to mount a display of photographs and other memorabilia in Westmoor House.
Teacher Patrick Neal will be co-o
rdinating the event as he did the 5oth celebrations of the Glandford School, the other founding partner of Vale.
The exhibition of photos and memorabilia he masterminded for that occasion will again be open to view.
"If you taught at either school or attended as a pupil and have photographs or other memorabilia, please contact me. All photographs not donated to the College will be returned after they have been scanned," said Mr Neal.
The Brigg Westmoor Secondary School received its first pupils on Tuesday, September 8 1959 – 238 pupils who had previously attended Broughton Primary, Barnetby Church of England, Hibaldstow Primary, Scawby Primary, Kirmington Church of England and Kirton Huntcliff Secondary Modern, with additional children from various other local schools.
Lincolnshire Education Committee's Development Plan provided for two secondary modern schools in Brigg to complete reorganisation in this area of the county.
The first, Glanford Secondary opened in January 1957 and the opening of Westmoor Secondary enabled re-organisation of the rest of the area's all-age schools.
Basil Price was appointed as Headmaster and Margaret Pickard, Deputy Head.
