PROBLEMS of litter clearance in and around the Ancholme in the town centre area remain despite the successful volunteer clear up in the early summer.
The Environment Agency's Nick Brommidge said the volunteer group deserved a pat on the back, but his colleague from the Environment Agency, Keith Stothard said it was not his agency's job.

"We don't pick up people's litter in the river. We deal with any litter that is a flood defence problem but other litter is the responsibility of individuals and the councils."
There was a serious litter problem at Hibaldstow Bridge where fly tipping rubbish has not been removed for seven months.
"It is a pity this is not in Lincolnshire where we have good partnership working with the county council," said Nick Brommidge.
Trolleys continue to blight the area by the County Bridge.
"We have wheeled trolleys from the river into Tesco's almost every week.," said Mr Stothard. Junior managers had been spoken to and in other areas prosecutions launched against supermarket companies.
