THE TRADITIONAL equine invasion associated with Brigg Horse Fair took place as usual this year even though the official fair festivities were cancelled through a lack of volunteers.

Although it has an 804 year history, Brigg Fair was revived in the 1980s and ran successfully for a number of years with Tom Glossop as chairman.

After the 800th anniversary it looked destined to die off again but the summer fair aspect of it was salvaged by a volunteer group, which after three years could not go on without more support Horse trading however has carried on the true tradition of the fair, under the responsibility of North Lincolnshire Council.

Traders were in town almost a week ahead of the traditional August 5 date and even took their animals into Brigg's pedestrianised area to reinforce the historic heritage of horse trading and trotting through the towm.
Attendance was said to be down this year, with ideas expressed that if the community got behind it, it could become a bigger and better thing.

Brigg Lions will not be drawn to confirm or refute approaches for them to take over the street fair.
