Barnetby Horticultural Society is anxious that it may not make its 50th anniversary show in three years time unless it cultivates some willing volunteers and helpers.

It celebrated the 47th Annual Show with a splendid display of produce in the village hall and village youngsters turned out their exhibits alongside veteran exhibitors.

But although delighted at the standard of entries, society chairman Alistair Stothard had a warning that the Society could not be certain it would still exist to celebrate its 50th show.
"Our problem is getting helpers on the day.
"The Committee are all getting older each year and I just hope we can do three more years to celebrate our 50th in 2011."

Among the village winners was Walt Phillips who won prizes with many of his vegetables including a first with some giant carrots.
