ONLY A WEEK remains for people to have their say on the proposed removal of three phone boxes from Brigg area villages.

Prospective Brigg MP, Andrew Percy is urging residents to make their views known on BT's proposals to remove kiosks from New Street, Elsham, Main Street, Bonby, and Melton Ross.

Mr Percy said, "Although this is very much the age of the mobile phone, not everybody has access to a mobile and not everyone wishes to rely on them alone. Therefore, phone boxes can still act as a lifeline for rural communities."
North Lincolnshire Council is undertaking a consultation on the removals which will be forwarded to BT.

Factors taken into account in the consultation process are loss of heritage feature, lack of mobile coverage, location on a busy road or accident blackspot, use for emergency calls or reliance by the elderly and vulnerable. Mr Percy says, clearly, some of these factors will apply to the boxes in the Brigg area.

To object to the loss of the phone boxes, write to the Planning Department, Church Square House, Scunthorpe, DN15 6XQ or e-mail planning@northlincs.gov.uk. Consultation closes on July 9.
